The Zero Complementizer in Embedded Wh-Questions in Standard English Type
松原 史典(広島大)
Following Chomsky (1997,1998), I propose that it should be more economical to dispence with the strong/weak distinction concerning the head-feature of Q. I finally reach the following conclusions:
1) English wh-questions universally involve a strong head-feature of Q, regardless of whether they are root or embedded.
2) Standard English embedded wh-questions hold a zero complementizer, which fulfills the greed of Q, thus barring SAI/do-support and merger of that.
3) A zero complementizer in wh-questions must be lexically c-commanded by a root head containing a complement-feature [+WH].
4)The Doubly Filled COMP Filter is no longer necessary.
